About the team
We’re a large Communications team who work on a variety of campaigns – one day, it’s an initiative to build our reputation, and the next, it’s pulling together a strategy to ensure our employees are inspired and informed. We have a mix of backgrounds and skills, from PR pros and integrated campaign thinkers to corporate affairs and employee engagement experts, in-house creative production specialists and social channels gurus.

About the role
We have an opportunity to join the Employee Communications team of our Campaigns & Projects team in Communications. Your work will focus on leading the planning and logistics of a high profile, biannual leadership event, and working closely with a small team to execute the event end to end. You will also support the employee communications team to develop campaigns and content that increase employee engagement and support our employee experience at Telstra.
As the Employee Events and Communications Specialist, you'll:

1. Lead management and delivery of key employee events including:
  • Coordination of event logistics, from venues to catering and event registration
  • Engaging with external suppliers
  • Managing event budgets
  • Understanding the event objectives and helping to design and deliver a format to meet those objectives (inc any requirements for hybrid/virtual event elements)
  • Leading the delivery of the AV elements – working with a designer and our AV partner
  • Working to tight deadlines and in ambiguity
  • Surfacing potential issues and solutions proactively
  • Day-of show call and event execution
2. Support the employee communications chapter with:
  • Creating written content in Telstra’s tone of voice that engages and informs our target audiences, and aligns to our corporate narrative
  • Designing and executing employee communications strategies that align to key strategic pillars of the communications plan to support the delivery of the overall business objectives
  • Engaging with key internal stakeholders to share information that addresses key priorities and enhances employee understanding of Telstra’s mission and strategic direction
  • Managing multiple projects, ensuring work is delivered efficiently and to brief
  • Collaborating across the Telstra communications team to bring the best thinking and insights to your strategic recommendations
  • Providing advice regarding the identification and management of employee communications issues and activities
  • Maintaining knowledge of trends in employee communications to share with your team and apply to new thinking to your campaigns

To be successful in the role, you'll need experience in:
  • Event management – managing logistics, budgets and suppliers end-to-end
  • Campaign management – detail orientated and strong organisational skills to manage multiple campaigns in a timely manner and work with strict timeline
  • Communication – ability to construct simple, concise messages that connect with the audience and deliver compelling verbal communication
  • Business partnering - collaborate with different functions of the Telstra business to deliver exceptional results and achieve objectives
  • Collaboration – be comfortable engaging a wide range of stakeholders in a sometimes complex environment and balancing inputs and priorities to get the best outcome
  • Issues management – apply critical thinking to solve and communicate complex issues in a simple and persuasive ways
